Building A Content Rich Website

If you`ve gone through the trouble of building a website, it`s safe to assume that you want people to see it, it doesn`t matter whether you have an online store or just your personal collection of poetry, getting traffic is the aim of every web developer. There are many methods you can use to do this but one of the simplest involves building a content-rich website. Why? Why bother with adding a lot of extra stuff to your site?

We are in the middle of the information age and that`s just what people are looking for. High quality content can go a long way when it comes to establishing your credibility within your niche area. And let`s not forget those pesky search engines. Many a site has missed their chance at being indexed simply because they either didn`t have enough content or what they did have was so poor that they would have been better off not bothering at all. So how does one go about building a content-rich website? Here are some tips:

Keywords In Moderation:

Your keywords are very important because they represent the words or phrases that will direct a viewer to your site. It is essential that you take the time to use a keyword research tool to ensure that there isn`t too much competition. One mistake a lot of people make though is assuming that the more you include your keywords in your content, the better off your website will be. Not quite. While the keywords do need to appear often, you can`t afford to overdo it. You could actually be penalised by the search engines for keyword stuffing, and your human readers (the ones who actually have to buy your products) might be turned off.

Observe SEO Principles:

It`s a proven fact that no one likes to read large blocks of text, especially online. Just seeing it is enough to repulse some viewers. As such, your content should be broken down into small paragraphs of about 4-5 sentences. It`s also a good idea to use bullet points wherever possible. You may have to break an article up over two pages instead of cramming everything into one, but that`s better than having a page that seems to go on forever.

Link Everywhere:

It`s tempting to ignore the navigation on high content pages and just stick to a full navigation menu from the homepage. Now the homepage is very important. There`s no denying that and you need to make sure that you`ve got perfect spelling and grammar there. However, a viewer should be able to get to any page on your site from any page on your site. Otherwise, they may just go away from your site.

Wow Them With Articles:

Articles relevant to your site`s subject matter continue to be one of the best ways of building a content-rich website. This may seem like a tedious step to the busy web developer but you`re guaranteed to regret it if you don`t pay attention. There are many ways to go about collecting these articles. Let`s take a look at a few:

  • PLR Articles:

Private Label Articles (PLR) articles are typically those in which the writer has given up all claim to their written works. You are free to do whatever you want with these, including placing them as is on your website or rewriting them. Many times, PLR articles are available for free on writing forums.

  • Article Directories:

Most contributors to article directories will allow their content to be archived on other sites. This can be a good thing, but you may end up having to link to the author`s site or even take up space with author bios. Many article directories are now allowing access to their article database through RSS feeds. What this means is that you can get up-to-the-minute listings of all articles that have been uploaded within your niche. You can have a virtual article directory of your own at your fingertips if you choose wisely.

The problem with using articles obtained by the previous two methods is that they aren`t unique. If it`s a popular topic they`ll be all over the internet. This can actually hurt your site by diluting your page rank, and no one wants that. Worse yet, your viewers may be subjected to poorly written content and there goes your credibility. You can overcome this by employing an article writing service. Copyright is transferred to you upon payment and the articles will be unique to your site.

  • Research And Write:

Paying for content can cost you as much as $20 per article. Of course you could just do the writing yourself. We suggest you to use this free xml-based web tool for creating rich-content for your website. Remember that your aim is to provide useful content to your viewers so that they`ll keep coming back to see what else you have to say. It`s your site. You set it up so one would assume that you know a bit about the subject. Use that knowledge to create content for your site. Informational pieces and how-to articles are a great draw when you`re building a content-rich website.
